Recently, CBD products have skyrocketed onto the scene following legalization of industrial hemp in 2015, and the passing of the 2018 United States Farm Bill, which legalized the growing and harvesting of industrial hemp not exceeding 0.3% THC. But what exactly are CBD and THC?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid that is found in a variety of hemp plants. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces the high sensation one may experience after interacting with a hemp-based product.
Both CBD and THC have the same carbon-based structure, however organized differently, which is why these two parts of the hemp plant create different reactions in the body. CBD binds very poorly to the CB1 receptors in your brain, which are responsible for helping the brain release a variety of neurotransmitters; in order to be effective, CBD needs THC in order to bind to these receptors since THC binds very easily.
CBD and THC both have many of the same medical benefits, such as:
Seizures
Nausea
Headaches
Vomiting
Inflammation
Anxiety
Depression
Nerve tissue damage
Pain
Insomnia
Many other benefits
Cativa, which is grown and sourced right here in Virginia, has 0.3% or less of THC - this level of THC will not cause that euphoric effect from consumption or use of products containing THC. When using a Cativa product that contains both THC and CBD, your body will undergo the “entourage effect”, meaning the CBD will bind more easily to the CB1 receptors and improve effectiveness of the product. We recommend products that contain 0.3% of THC as it will boost the effectiveness of CBD, but the isolated CBD products will work very well if you do not respond well to THC.
You may see that some CBD products within the Cativa brand may have “Delta 8” in them, but what exactly is Delta 8? It is an active form of THC that can have a psychoactive property, whereas the other products that contain THC are inactive and will not cause a psychoactive response. Delta 8 products are recommended for individuals that need full body relaxation. Any products that contain the Delta 8 strain of THC will be clearly labeled as to not cause any confusion on what product you may be using or consuming.
It is important to note that Delta 8 will test positive on a drug test!!! It is not recommended or suggested for individuals in the military or government jobs to use CBD products at all, so please check with your job or where you work to make sure it is okay to use CBD products!
